Jupiter -For planets day

This is  for the planets day in my daugter's school. I googled for the colors of  jupiter. I don't know whether it is perfect but somehow I managed to finish it. I used dabble method to make the effects of spots in the surface of jupiter. The colors used are fabric colors brown, orange, fresh tint, prussian blue and black.I am not much satisfied with the picture. I tried to show some depth by adding black color... I might have reduced it...but still happy I prepared it myself for my daughter and I am learning something through it.

I came to know a lot about jupiter while collecting informations to make this chart. One interesting factor is that jupiter is the planet with largest number of moons ...ie 63 moons.

Just have a look.... this is what my daughter is practicing for tomorrow's drawing competition.

One more thing, I am taking a short break for 1 month from blogging . I have to prepare for an  examination.....  something what I am going to do after a long time, so my dear friends wish me all success and also have two important family functions falling in this month. I am sure to come back with more and more interesting projects. Thanks you for support and comments, it means a lot to me.

Banded yoke top/frock tutorial

The draft contains two part, the yoke and the body. It is open at back for easy in and out. It is easy to make. Any one who knows how to finish a neck line can make this top/frock. Here I have made a frock, to see how the top looks click here.

Take a basic draft for top.

Measure the shoulder, here it is 2.5 inches. Mark a band around the neck with the width 2.5 inches as shown in the picture. Cut the band, this is the yoke and the other part is the body. Preserve the body part we need it later.

TO MAKE THE YOKE

FIGURE-A  (click to view larger) Fold the yoke as shown in the picture. Keep the yoke on fold(4 layers, this will result 2 yoke pieces). Mark it with 1/4 inch seam allowance. Cut it. This should result an oval as in the picture FIGURE-B (Click to view larger) Keep the pieces such that right sides faces each other and stitch along the outer edge as in the picture. After stitch the outer edge, the yoke band looks as in picture 2 Make  some  cuts along the outer edge. Turn the band to the …

This little tree is the Queen of the forest

This week  they are celebrating  children's day   in my daughter's school.  This tree costume is for the fancy dress competition .
In the top I have used two different shades of brown for the body and sleeve. I painted with fabric colors to make it look like the trunk of the tree.

Then I stitched the top. For the pant I managed with the brown color tracksuit.

The branches and leaves were not that much easy to make. I first made it with a thermocol.

In this I made a mistake, you can notice one side is very thin than the other. when I fix this in her face to check whether it fits, it break down. The thermocol is not very flexible. Then I made the other one with cardboard and chart paper. It will be easy to paint in the chart than the cardboard. So I pasted the chart over the cardboard.

and painted with fabric colors, outlined it with black.

I also attached a cord behind it, so that it can be  tied  around the head and hands.

Terracotta jewellery making and baking - Tutorial

On seeing the beauty of the terracotta jewellery sets on the net, I wished to make one. Making a set is  easy for me but baking process is something difficult. Many said to bake it in an oven or kiln, I don't have either.
One lady in a television program said to bake it in microwave oven. Hey... I have a microwave.  So I made a jhumki  and pendant and  baked it in microwave... but it was a disaster, it busted. Then I keep on searching the net and finally got one tutorial.
This time I kept the designs very simple since I am not sure about the out come. I don't want to waste my efforts. But  it was a success. It really worked and I made my first terracotta jewellery set.
Thanks for the person who shared this. I can not find that link now but the tutorial in this link also uses same technique. You can go here and check for the tutorial Edited: All details about making, baking and painting terracotta jewellery is here....
